คำนามตอนที่ 2 นี้เราขอนำเสนอเรื่องของคำนามนับได้และคำนามที่นับไม่ได้
Countable Nouns ( นามนับได้)
เป็นคำนามที่เราสามารถนับจำนวนเป็นของมันได้ เป็นชิ้นเป็นอัน
ไม่ว่าจะมีหรือไม่มีรูปร่าง ที่จับต้องได้หรือจับต้องไม่ได้
a. ที่จับต้องได้มี (รูปร่าง) เช่น boy, chair, book, school, country, lady, biscuit
b.ที่จับต้องไม่ได้ (ไม่มีรูปร่าง) เช่น day, month, year, weekend, journey
c.กิจกรรมบางอย่าง เช่น job, assignment
ตัวอย่างคำนามนับได้อื่น เช่น
animal, bag, battery, bottle, bottle,
box, cat, chair, coin, cup, dog, dollar
fork, job(*), journey(*), man, note, person,
plate, report(*), song(*), suitcase, table, tip, view
ดังนั้นคำนามนับได้จึงมีทั้งรูปเอกพจน์และพหูพจน์
เอกพจน์ (Singular) dog country man foot
พหูพจน์ (Plural) dogs countries men feet
ตัวอย่าง
My son is running. ลูกชายของฉันกำลังวิ่ง
Your sons are sitting. พวกลูกชายของคุณกำลังนั่ง
ASEAN has 10 countries. อาเซียนมี 10 ประเทศ
Thailand is a country in ASEAN. ประเทศไทยเป็นประเทศหนึ่งในอาเซียน
การนำคำนามนับได้ไปใช้ในประโยค
1. นามนับได้เอกพจน์ ต้องนำหน้าด้วย ตัวนำหน้าคำนาม (determiners) ตัวใดตัวหนึ่งนึ่ง เช่น
I have a cat. (ไม่ใช่ I have cat.)
Where is the room? (ไม่ใช่ Where is room?)
Does he want this pen?
2. คำนามนับได้พหูพจน์อาจจะนำหน้าด้วย articles หรือไม่ก็ได้ เช่น
I like to feed the cats. (เฉพาะเจาะจง ต้องมี the นำ)
Dogs are interesting pets. (ไม่เฉพาะเจาะจง ไม่ต้องมี article)
I want my books. (my ตัวนำหน้าคำนาม)
Uncountable Nouns (นามนับไม่ได้) เป็นคำนามที่นับไม่ได้
เนื่องจากภาษาอังกฤษมองสิ่งนั้นในภาพรวมและเห็นสิ่งนั้น
ไม่สามารถจะแยกเป็นส่วนได้ ซึ่งรวมได้ถึงความคิด
การกระทำต่างๆที่เป็นรูปธรรม (abstract nouns) ด้วย เช่น
1. คำนามนับไม่ได้ที่เป็นรูปธรรมหรือจับต้องได้ (Concrete) เช่น
water, milk, butter, furniture, luggage, iron,
equipment, clothing, garbage, junk
2. คำนามนับไม่ได้ที่เป็นนามธรรมหรือจับต้องไม่ได้ (Abstract) เช่น
anger, courage, satisfaction, happiness, knowledge
3. ชื่อภาษา เช่น English, German, Chinese
4. กีฬา เช่น football, tennis, badminton
5. ชื่อวิชาต่างๆ เช่น Mathematics, Biology, Physics
6. กิจกรรมต่างๆ เช่น sleeping, running, swimming, eating
7. คำนามนับไม่ได้อื่นๆ เช่น
advice, art, breakfast, butter cereal currency, difficulty, education,
electricity, furniture, gas, gossip, happiness, homework, information, love,
(คำนามเหล่านี้ดูเหมือนจะนับได้) เช่น luggage, machinery, mail, money, music, news, permission, power,
research, rice, scenery, sugar, traffic, travel, water, weather, wine, work
การนำคำนามไม่ได้ไปใช้
1. เราใช้คำนามไม่ได้ เหมือนเป็นคำนามเอกพจน์ (singular noun)
จึงมีเฉพาะรูปที่เป็นเอกพจน์เท่านี้น
This news is very important.
His luggage looks heavy.
The weather is so hot today.
2. เราสามารถนับคำนามนับไม่ได้โดยการเพิ่มหน่วยไว้ด้านหน้าคำนามนั้น

3. เราสามารถใช้ some, any, a little และ much นำหน้าคำนามนับไม่ได้

4. เราใช้ How much ในการถามจำนวนของคำนามนับไม่ได้How much money do you have?
How much salt do you have?
How much oil does he have?

คำนามนับไม่ได้ It is difficult to work when there is so much noise.
