My Thai is terrible. Oh, it’s good enough that I can travel around Thailand and putter around on my projects with the local workers, but overall my language skills still need considerable work. Some people say that applies to both Thai and English.
Regardless, the best Thai translator in 2019 is still the Model 1966 which is shown below and one I have used for years on a regular basis. However, there are still a few flaws with the programming. My biggest complaint is the on/off button. Sometimes, I have difficulty turning it on. And turning it off.
This translator is able to find delicious Thai coffee at the cheapest prices in any of the local markets. However, to keep the battery charged expensive Starbucks coffee is required. This is a design hiccup and is currently being studied.
The Model 1966 translator has a fairly large database to pull words from but it will not always work in all situations. It is fairly common to use the translator for directions only to find three locals all pointing in three different directions.
Where the translator is invaluable often involves dealing with government officials. Fortunately this Model 1966 has been designed to automatically go in to overload mode when necessary. So far it has worked great…
